Full early red crushed levant ruled in gilt, raised bands with gilt fillets, compartments completely tooled in gilt, all edges gilt, gilt dentelle turn ins, gilt stamp signed by Riviere and Son. Provenance (typed index card laid in): Clarence S. Bement (bookplate) purchased by him from Robson’s catalogue no. 6 in 1900; bought from Rosenbach on February 10, 1906; Ricci, Ms. catalogue 1923, pp. 41–43; Joseph Widener (bookplate of one of the founders of the National Gallery and an extensive collector of sporting books). FIRST EDITION with excellent provenance in an attractive binding.
