FIRST EDTION, INSCRIBED BY CORNWELL on half–title: “To S.M(?)/with deepest affection/and appreciation of your/fine enthusiasm”, and signed “Dean Cornwell/New York/1926”. Nicknamed “The Dean of Illustrators” by his peers, Cornwell dominated much of the 20th century with his presence in American illustration with his vivid oil paintings that were frequently featured in popular magazines of the day and posters that promoted the war effort.
