DODGSON, Charles Lutwidge (“Lewis Carroll”) (1832–1898). Alice’s Adventures Under Ground. [Camden, New Jersey: privately printed for Eldridge R. Johnson by Max Jaffe of Vienna, 1936]. 8vo. Color title–page, dedication, and initials, 37 illustrations by the author. Original limp dark green morocco gilt, all edges gilt (lacking spine panel, tips rubbed). Laid in with publisher’s printed slip. LIMITED EDITION, one of approximately 100 copies with the majority “given to various institutions around the world.” An exact collotype facsimile of Carroll’s original manuscript that is considered the most perfect facsimile of the famous manuscript originally purchased by A.S.W. Rosenbach at Sotheby’s in 1928. Eldridge R. Johnson would later purchase the manuscript from Rosenbach and in 1936 arranged for a facsimile of the manuscript to be published that reproduced the exact binding, endpapers, and laid–paper of the manuscript. –– [TOGETHER WITH:] Alice’s Adventures Under Ground: Being a Facsimile of the Original MS.
