Half–title, hand–colored frontispiece engraving after a drawing by Vertue, engraved vignette title. Contemporary dice calf blind ruled in alternating palmettes inside a gilt frame, raised bands gilt, blind scrollwork tooling in compartments, all edges marbled, gilt fillet turn–ins, marbled endpapers (light rubbing to joints, else clean). Provenance: Lord Northwick (bookplate). FIRST EDITION of the last book in the Froissart Chronicles and the last book to be issued by this early private press. “The ‘Chronicles' of Froissart are universally considered as the most vivid and faithful picture we have of events in the fourteenth century.
