Title vignette, 78 engraved plates after Gardiner and Vandenberg designed by Sylvester Harding including frontispiece and the rare variant half–nude portrait of Miss Lucy Waters on p. 330. Full contemporary red straight grain morocco paneled in gilt, double raised bands filleted in gilt, compartments with gilt titling and centerpieces, all edges gilt, gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers (few scuffs and some darkening to boards). Provenance: Charles Magniac, 1827–1891 (signature and gift inscription). FIRST REVISED EDITION of Grammont’s contemporary entertaining memoirs that painted a vivid portrait of the characters and scandals of both the courts of Louis XIV of France and Charles II of England.
