Additional engraved titles with vignettes (lightly foxed), engraved frontispieces (also a bit foxed), 2 plates in Volume I by James Ross after Hobson and La Guerre, numerous engraved vignette head– and tail–pieces based on Hogarth’s work; all printed in sepia tone; EXTRA–ILLUSTRATED WITH 12 DOUBLE–PAGE AND FOLDING PLATES AFTER HOGARTH’S ORIGINALS first published in 1726. Full contemporary calf filleted in gilt, double raised bands, compartments ornately tooled in gilt, gilt dentelles, unusual marbled endpapers not in Wolfe’s Marbled Paper (1990), BOUND BY CHRISTIAN KALTHOEBER with the binder’s orange paper ticket in Volume I, Part I. Provenance: Sarah Sophia Child (1785–1867), Countess of Jersey and a member of the Villiers family (bookplates). One of 200 copies but with only about half of these including the Hogarth plates. BOUND BY ONE OF THE FINEST CRAFTSMEN OF THE LATE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY.
