Woodcut decorated initials throughout. Contemporary signature on title page. Valerius Maximus was active during the reign of Emperor Tiberius. His works were some of the most copied of any Latin author during the Middle Ages, with more than 600 medieval manuscripts of his works surviving into the modern era. The Italian author Dante Alighieri utilized Maximus’s accounts of Roman luminaries when crafting his own classic work, The Divine Comedy.
