HUGARD, Jean (Gerald Rodney Boyce). Photographs of Hugard Presenting the Birth of a Pearl at Coney Island. [New York, ca. 1927]. Trio of fine black-and-white full-stage images of Hugard, now best-known as an important author and editor of magic books and periodicals, during his performance at Luna Park in Asian garb and presenting his own version of Chung Ling Soo’s famous Birth of a Pearl illusion, in which a giant shell is shown empty, closed, and when reopened, the pearl inside has developed into a comely assistant. Blind stamped photographer’s mounts in boudoir card format, handsomely framed to 10 ½ x 12 ½”.
