Following a violent altercation backstage at the Cleveland Stadium in July 1979, guitarist Joe Perry left Aerosmith and formed The Joe Perry Project. Stepping in to take over lead guitar duties was Richie Supa, whose work appears on the 1979 release Night in the Ruts. In early 1981 rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford briefly left the group, and Rick Dufay took over for him on the band’s 1982 release, Rock in a Hard Place.
