Climbing Florin. New York: Hartz [?], ca. 1870. A borrowed coin, placed in a drawer at the bottom of the cabinet, apparently climbs up the small chimney atop the structure, visibly traveling up its length, and is then plucked from the top by the magician or appears in a box resting atop it. Polished mahogany, height 12 ¼". An early example of this classic prop. For a complete description and contemporary drawing of this prop, see page 75 of Hartz’s 1873 catalog. While this prop was reproduced in the 1990s, early models are scarce.
