[Hofzinser] Hofzinser Millet Bell. Circa 1860. Fine silver bell with clapper under which a quantity of millet appears, having been previously vanished by the magician. Spring plunger mechanism in handle; housed in a fitted tooled leather case with brass clasp and green silk lining. Height 5", mouth diameter 2 ¾". Said to be owned and used by Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser the famed Viennese parlor magician. See Salon de Magie, page 125. A larger bell owned and used by Hofzinser of a similar design with a matching case was donated to the Library of Congress by John McManus, along with many other Hofzinser props.
