Complete set of 26 poster-size color photographic alphabet study prints on stiff card. Size of each 17 13/16 x 13”. Versos with teaching suggestions including the biography of a famous Black American whose last name begins with the letter on the corresponding card. Retains original vinyl storage folder (worn). Tackholes; scattered creases. An uncommon and pioneering educational publication, created by two Chicago teachers as one of the first early education tools in which African American children could see themselves positively reflected. In 2020, the University of Chicago Arts Incubator commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the flash cards with an exhibition, “S is for Soul Sister,” featuring current portraits of the children who originally appeared in the series.
