[FARGO FAMILY]. THOMAS, Clara Fargo (American, 1890-1970) Child and Mother. 20th century. Mixed media on board. A little girl clutches the skirts of her mother, who is otherwise engaged in a telephone conversation. 10 x 7”. Light surface wear. Provenance: From the estate of Clara Fargo Thomas. Clara Fargo Thomas’s art career began during her first pregnancy, during a period of “confinement” in which she chose to decorate her baby’s nursery with a full scale mural depicting dreamlike hunting scenes of animals being chased by hounds. Thus began an art career which would see her creating murals for the Chicago Tribune Building, businesswoman Elizabeth Arden, the Grosvenor House in London, and the New York offices of Vincent Astor and of Percy A. Rockefeller.
