Alphabetical directory with advertisements, some illustrated, of Chicago’s music dealers, publishers, musicians, instructors, vocalists, accompanists, pianists, clubs, composers, conductors, choirs, and others. Advertising endpapers and pastedowns printed on pale pink paper. Original brick red cloth titled in gilt, advertising emblem for Root & Sons Music Co. stamped in gilt to lower cover. Bumped at head of spine with some paper tears not affecting text; fraying at edges of covers, but tight and square. A rare directory; we could locate only one record in an 1889 Chicago Public Library finding list, and no copies listed on OCLC/WorldCat. [Together with]: a pre-Fire tuition receipt for the Chicago Academy of Music, 27 Sept 1871, endorsed by Florenz Ziegfeld Sr. (separated at folds).
