[CHICAGO]. OGDEN, William B. (1805-1877). Autographed letter handwritten and signed by William B. Ogden to Theodore Segdwick III, dated 30 December 1843. Chicago. 8vo, 254 x 197 mm. Loss to paper where seal was once affixed. Old folds. Ogden requests information on acquiring land which had belonged to Sedgwick’s uncle, Robert Sedgwick, who had died two years earlier. William B. Ogden was elected the first mayor of Chicago in 1837. After completing his term one year later he served on the Chicago Common Council, first as alderman from the 6th Ward and then as alderman from the 9th.
