[CHICAGO—PHOTOGRAPHY]. KAUFMANN & FABRY. An archive of photographs and ephemera. Chicago, v.d., bulk ca. 1920s/40s. Archive of approximately 100 photographs, plus additional ephemera including company business cards, envelopes, and advertisements. Photographs of Chicago include views along the lakeshore, several in the vicinity of Oak Street Beach; Clarendon Beach; parks and buildings; the 1933 Century of Progress; and (16) transparency negatives of panoramic images of the 1893 Columbian Exposition. Remainder of the collection consists of photographs of Kaufmann & Fabry employees with photo equipment, at banquets, picnics, and other events, company vehicles, and other photos retained by the Fords. Many with identification notations. Photos generally 8 x 10” and smaller. A remarkable collection that must be seen. Provenance: Arthur J. Ford; accompanied by a 1989 three-page typed letter related to the contents of Ford’s home in Chicago, including material from his approximately 40 year career at Kaufmann & Fabry, and information on other family members, including his son, Roy Ford, also a photographer.
