[BASEBALL]. Trio of 1912 press photos of baseball slide and pitching practice. Silver prints, with purple P-J Press Bureau (Philadelphia) stamps to versos, the two photos of sliding joined together with a mimeographed slug titled “Teach ‘em to slug is this year’s baseball slogan.” Third photo depicts a catcher beside a football dummy, which has been rigged up to stand in as a batting figure for pitching practice. Sliding player and catcher wear “New York” jerseys, apparently members of a university team in New York (slug referencing the “University of New York”). 5 x 7”. (Chipping and creasing along edges, not affecting central image.) According to the caption, the first image shows the “hook slide,” and the second image the “fade away” slide. The players are unidentified, but appear to be members of a college or university team. The caption further states that “at the camps of professional ball players…it is recognized that this [sliding] is to play a most important part in the struggle for the pennant in 1912.”
