[BASEBALL]. BREARLY, Dennis. Glass plate negative of Rogers Hornby. Circa 1933. Glass plate negative of baseball legend Rogers Hornsby shortly after he joined the St. Louis Cardinals. 127 x 121 mm. Hornsby’s name written in pen at upper left corner. With a lifetime batting average rivaled only by Ty Cobb, Roger Hornsby’s major league career lasted twenty-three seasons and spanned five baseball teams, including the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals. Following his retirement he briefly managed the St. Louis Browns and then the Cincinnati Reds. To date, he is the only ball player to have hit 40 home runs and batted .400 in a single season. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1942, only five years after his retirement.
