CHAPLIN, Charlie (1889-1977). My Trip Abroad. New York: Harper & Brothers, 1922. 8vo. Original publisher’s boards (spine perished, staining to boards). Harper & Brothers code B-W, indicating publication date of February 1922. SIGNED BY CHARLIE CHAPLIN. Charlie Chaplin sailed for England in September 1921, hot on the heels of international fame following the massive success of The Kid. By the time the RMS Olympic (sister ship of the ill-fated Titanic) sailed into its berth at Southampton, Chaplin’s visit was national news. In Europe he made the acquaintance of a veritable who’s who of early twentieth century luminaries, among them the British author H.G. Wells, socialite Sir Philip Sassoon, and Polish actress Pola Negri.
