BERNHARDT, Sarah (1844-1923). Cabinet card photograph. Paris: Nadar, 1890s. Sepia-toned cabinet photograph of the French actress Sarah Bernhardt. 165 x 114 mm. Foxing. Sarah Bernhardt was one of the most popular French actresses of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She studied acting at the Conservatory in Paris from 1860-1862, and made her stage debut in early April 1862. In 1900 she played Hamlet in a short filmed excerpt from the play, the first of eleven film appearances she would make. Sixty years later she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making her the earliest-born recipient.
