FULLER, Loie (1862-1928). Cabinet card photograph. Paris: Reutlinger, ca. 1890s. Sepia-toned cabinet photograph of famed dancer Loie Fuller in a long butterfly dress. 165 x 114 mm. Name written in pencil on the back of card. Loie Fuller began her career as a child actress and was one of the earliest practitioners of free dance. Her famous Serpentine Dance earned her rave reviews and spawned a slew of imitators, a turn of fortune which would inspire her to take her talents to Europe in search of greater recognition. She continues to be an inspiration well into the 21st century, with Taylor Swift incorporating Fuller’s Serpentine Dance into her 2018 Reputation tour.
