One page, 4to, with address, stamp, and partial remains of seal on one side. 229 x 178 mm. Lower portion of letter separated. Voids on either side of letter where seal was applied. Barton writes to a close friend who has asked for autographs and writing advice he is unable to provide either, advising him instead that he should “do what thou canst to make them to thy own liking, & then snap thy fingers at thy critics.” He also writes of old friends long gone, among them Sir Walter Scott, James Hogg, and Felicia Hemans.
