Two scarce Polar Expedition 1939 and 1941 Covers. Includes December 13, 1939, U.S.S. “North Star” Expedition to the South Pole special cacheted cover posted on Admiral Byrd's visit to Pitcairn Island on his way to the South Pole, posted to his mother by Polar explorer Roy Fitzsimmons. With mimeographed and holographic letter signed by Roy Fitzsimmons, a scientist and member of the Expedition. Initialed by Postmaster Richard Edward Christian indicating that postage had been paid even though no stamps were available, very fine with some soiling on cover front. About 200 covers were prepared thus for delivery to the United States. Lot includes Feb. 1941 U.S.S. Bear U.S. Antarctic Expedition Little America cover, also addressed to Mrs. Fitzsimmons. Scarce thus.
