DUNNINGER, Joseph. Scrapbook of Dunninger’s Newspaper Clippings, and Research Archive. IMPORTANT DUNNINGER SCRAPBOOK AND RESEARCH ARCHIVE. Including a massive buckram scrapbook, the spine lettered in gilt with the text, “Newspaper clippings from the Dunninger Collection, Vol. 1” and being and approximately 400+ page oversized book filled with flyers, letters, advertisements, and hundreds if not thousands of newspaper clippings related to magic, the supernatural, ghosts, spiritualism, and related topics. Investigations into spiritualists and mediums are a frequent topic, and included are photostats of various letters related to Hereward Carrington and Arthur Conan Doyle and their belief (or lack thereof) in communicating with the dead. Included is a letter signed by Francis Martinka to Harry Houdini decrying any belief in spiritualism; a TLS from Nino Pecoraro stating that he used fraudulent means to apparently contact the spirit world (bearing the signatures of three witnesses, as well as Pecoraro); paperwork from the Conan Doyle Memorial Fund; stories regarding the Cottingley Fairies; an early Annemann advertising brochure; and memorabilia and clippings related to Kuda Bux, Herman Weber, Robert Ripley, Dante, Beatrice Houdini, Hardeen, Edward Saint, and various organizations focused on spiritualism and ghosts. A thick 4to book, disbound but with most contents clean and well-preserved and neatly mounted. Sold together with: a large collection of approximately 500 newspaper clippings, advertisements, a small scrapbook of clippings from one of Dunninger’s Popular Magic publications, and related notes regarding Dunninger’s life and career, spanning his earliest days to his final moments both on stage and in his personal life. Organized in a series of albums, and well-kept for ease of study and handling.
