[DUNNINGER – EPHEMERA] Gigantic Archive of Dunninger Correspondence, Manuscripts, and Ephemera. 1910s – 70s. A lifetime collection of brochures, advertising, newspaper and magazine clippings, programs, photographs, table tents, ALSs and TLSs, postcards, and handwritten manuscripts related to the personal life and professional career of the twentieth century’s most successful mind reader, Joseph Dunninger. Among the highlights of the archive are early ALSs from Dunninger to fellow magicians on his pictorial letterhead, a penciled manuscript in Dunninger’s hand describing his impressions of Al Flosso, several small advertising posters from the 1950s advertising Dunninger’s live show, an early manuscript on theology from Dunninger’s library and bearing his bookplate and signature, a Burling Hull manuscript inscribed to Dunninger, TLSs from Dunninger to Walter Gibson regarding the ghostwriting of a book and magazine articles, carbons of show scripts, letters to Dunninger from various correspondents, press releases, letters from Dunninger to various correspondents, pictorial handbills, brochures, early business cards, a letter of introduction to Walter Gibson by Dunninger for Bob Rossi (also signed by Gibson), tickets, and much more. With many dozens of items signed or inscribed by Dunninger, and most of the material housed in six display albums, and condition generally good to very good, though variable. An impressive archive of material that should be seen.
