Hand–colored engraved frontispiece in Volume I, hand–colored aquatint frontispiece in Volume II, large folding map, errata at rear of Volume II. (Offsetting from plates to title–pages, offsetting to map with some toning along folds). Contemporary English paneled calf ruled in blind, outer border twice ruled in gilt fillets, all edges marbled, neatly rebacked antique gilt, retaining original endpapers. (Lacking half–title in Volume I, extremities a bit worn). Provenance: Andrew Fletcher Salton (contemporary ownership signature to title–pages). FIRST EDITION, of Captain Cochrane’s two–year leave from the Royal Navy to travel the country, advising the Colombian pearl fishery how to protect its divers from sharks, and the prospect of mining for copper.
