Half–titles, hand–colored aquatint frontispiece in Volume I, 3 engraved maps and plans including 2 folding, in text vignettes in Volume II (some offsetting to folding maps, offsetting from frontispiece to title–page). Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, raised bands, black and burgundy morocco lettering–pieces gilt, blind tooled compartments in remainder (joints a bit rubbed, few tiny nicks to spine). FIRST EDITION, of Keppel’s famous account while enlisted with the British squadron in the Turkish seas in 1829 and a visit to Constantinople and Adrianople. The narrative is partially concerned with the Russo–Turkish wars, and partially with the growing awareness that this area is dotted with the remains of Greek civilization.
