[CIVIL WAR]. A Civil War scrapbook belonging to Lt. Col. Wheelock G. Veazey. Circa 1880s. 4to. Repurposed photo album (loss of spine, rubbing and loss to extremities) containing various newspaper clippings related to the Civil War exploits of Lieutenant Colonel Wheelock G. Veasey. Includes July 4, 1864 Philadelphia newspaper clipping detailing the Confederate defeat at the Battle of Gettysburg, as well as numerous clippings relating to veteran reunions and a circa 1883 facsimile reprint of the July 2, 1863 Vicksburg Daily Citizen front page. Wheelock G. Veazey enlisted in the Union Army at the beginning of the Civil War, eventually working his way up to lieutenant colonel. In 1881 he received the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Gettysburg, in which he rallied his troops against a Confederate brigade. He was active in the Grand Army of the Republic and was later named a Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court.
