ROOSEVELT, Theodore (1858-1919). Typed letter signed (“Theodore Roosevelt”) on New York Executive Chamber letterhead to Senator Curtis N. Douglas, 9 July 1900. One page, 8vo (152 x 203 mm). Old folds, creases, staining, offsetting from old rubber stamp, small separation at fold, signature faded. Governor Roosevelt writes to Senator Douglas thanking the senator for his congratulations on Roosevelt being nominated for Vice-President of the United States. Roosevelt expresses reluctance regarding the nomination but certainty that he and William McKinley would win the election; fourteen months later he would ascend to the presidency following McKinley’s assassination.
