London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner, & Co, 1892. 12mo. Engraved portrait frontispiece, numerous in–text wood engravings. Full crushed red levant with elegant gilt tools, upper cover with a roundel of inlaid grey, green, blue, tan, and burgundy morocco’s in the design of Gautama (the founder of Buddhism), 6 compartments with 5 raised bands gilt, gilt lettering and tooling in compartments, all edges gilt, gilt fillet turn–ins and cornerpieces, gilt stamp–signed by Bayntun; cloth chemise; morocco–backed slipcase. Provenance: Eugene Field (bookplate); inscription at rear dated 1924 from Eugene Field’s son, Eugene Field II, claiming that this book was from his father’s library. Field II was a notorious forger often adding bookplates and ownership signatures to the books. A VERY ATTRACTIVE BINDING.
