Original publisher’s green cloth lettered in black (spine sunned); original dust jacket designed by St. John (several spots of crimping or chipping to extreme edges, few old tape repairs along folds verso, small spot of rubbing to lower panel, spine panel gently toned). FIRST EDITION with the typographical error on p. 208 and the last Tarzan title to be published by McClurg. Considered one of the scarcer Burroughs titles according to a letter from McClurg stating a total of only 7,500 copies were printed that also included the second printing. INSCRIBED BY BURROUGHS TO EDDIE GILBERT WISHING HIM A MERRY CHRISTMAS, dated 25 December 1928. Eddie Gilbert was a close friend to Burroughs and was the brother of the author’s second wife and silent film actress Florence Gilbert. Heins LJ–1; Zeuschner 682.
