FIRST EDITION of this sonnet fired off by Douglas in response to an account published in the London daily papers on 29 March 1915 “of a presentation to Mr. Robert Ross, literary executor to the estate of the late Oscar Wilde. The presentation took the form of an address couched in flattering terms, and a purse containing several hundred sovereigns.” Provenance: from the collection of Herbert Boyce Satcher.
