FIRST EDITION, INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR. The best-selling recording artist from 1939 to 1942, Glenn Miller volunteered to join the U.S. Army in 1942 to entertain the troops in the European theater. A plane carrying Miller and two other U.S. Army officers disappeared while flying across the English Channel two years later. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star in 1945.
