Folio. 12 engraved plates by Srang, tipped–in to window mounts as issued. Original publisher’s duo–tone pictorial cloth stamped in black, gilt–lettered spine (extremes gently darkened, some tiny spots of fraying near spine ends, marginal foxing). Provenance: Lawrence W. Hodson (1864–1933), BOOKLABEL PRINTED AT THE KELMSCOTT PRESS in 1898 (see Lee, British Bookplates 252). Hodson was a famous collector of pre–Raphaelite paintings, a founder of the Essex House Press, and a patron of both William Strang and William Morris (see Houghton Library’s unpublished letters from Morris to Hodson). In 1898, Hodson commissioned wallpaper designed by Morris for his home at Compton Hall– the last wallpaper to be designed by Morris. LIMITED EDITION, number 21 of 150 copies.
