[LIMITED EDITIONS CLUB]. A library of approximately 400 titles published by the Limited Editions Club. An extensive collection of Limited Editions Club titles, mostly published in New York and printed during the period of 1929–1979, LIMITED EDITIONS, most one of 1,500 copies signed by the artists. All folio and 8vos. Illustrated. Original bindings and slipcases. Condition generally near fine. Founded in 1929 by George Macy, the Limited Editions Club set out to publish finely made and illustrated titles old and new, with original illustrations by some of the most revered artists of the day. Each book would number 1,500 exactly, to be signed by the illustrators, and was sold to club members for an annual subscription fee of $10.00 (roughly $150.00 today). The combination of craftsmanship, subject matter, and new works by beloved contemporary artists made the Limited Editions Club an immediate success, with its output continuing to be highly collectible today.
