Thomas Crehore Playing Cards. [Dorchester, Mass., ca. 1820s]. 48/52 (lacks the 7 of each suit, each supplied in facsimile). A RARE EARLY AMERICAN PLAYING CARD DECK. Ace of Spades depicts an Eagle with 13 stars (other versions of the Crehore Ace have 13 or 16 stars, as well as different lettering and shading in the spade among other differences). Backs dots and asterisks. One-way courts. KH torn and mended with old paper; many cards with remnants of black scrapbooking paper to backs and one on face; some ink notations and marginalia; soiling and scattered staining. Hochman U4.
