The Comic Playing Cards of Fortune. New York: E. Gardinier, 1877. 52 + J + EC (blank) + OB. Scarce deck which could be used for fortune-telling or for conventional card games. A fortunes and accompanying illustration appears on the face of each card, except the courts, which have a fortune only, the publisher having chosen not to “distort” the images, which “hence do not have to be learned anew.” Near fine with sharp corners and clean faces. Box lacks end flaps, cleanly split on one side. RARE; only the second example we have seen. Hochman FT8. Without the instructional booklet.
