[FRENCH-HISTORICAL]. A 19th Century Gibert French Deck of Historical Playing Cards. Paris, ca. 1860s/70s. 51/52 (lacking 10H). Engraved playing cards with color-stenciling. Non-standard courts depicting historical figures including courtiers and noblewomen on the Kings and Queens including Charles de Cosse, de Brissac, Diane de Poitiers, Louis de Bussy d’Amboise, Dame de Monsoreau, Chevalier d’Eon, and Countesse de Rochefort. The jacks are young men of the court shown with a horse, dog, and cane. “Gibert a Paris” credit to Jack of Spades. Suits all colored gilt. All edges gilt.
