Card Ladle. Boston: C. Milton Chase, ca. 1885. Nickel-plated ladle on a long handle used to switch, vanish, or produce billets or cards placed in it without apparent tampering by the magician. Hallmarked “C.M. Chase / Boston” near the end of the handle. Good working condition. Length 16”. A handsome and early American model of this classic conjuring device. A forerunner of the Change Bag and a commonly used device in both magic shows and mind reading performances, as well as séance rooms. Items hallmarked by Chase are uncommon.
