An engraved pocket watch with no apparent connection between the hands and the movement, operating similarly to the famous Robert-Houdin-designed Mystery Clocks of the mid-nineteenth century. Engraved silver case with hinged front and back. Crescent shaped movement operating the clear discs, the top with painted Arabic numerals, gilt spade hands, floral pattern engraved surround, and engraved cartouche. Diameter 2”. With brass display stand and wooden carrying case. Uncommon.
