[PIAF, Edith (1915-1963)]. Publicity Still Signed by Edith Piaf. Black and white publicity photograph depicting a pensive Edith Piaf. 5 ½ x 3 ½”. INSCRIBED BY EDITH PIAF, “To Benny Lemanski / Sincerely yours.” Edith Piaf’s singing career in 1935 Paris when nightclub owner Louis Leplee persuaded her to take the stage of his nightclub, Le Gerny’s. It was Leplee who gave her the nickname La Mome Piaf, meaning “Little Sparrow.” Taking her under his wing Leplee taught her how to magnify her stage presence and helped develop her iconic look. Her most popular song, “La Vie En Rose” has been covered by countless artists through the decades and in 1998 received a Grammy Hall of Fame Award. Provenance: The Bo Overlock Collection.
