VEITCH, Tom (1941-2022). – IRONS, Greg (1947-1984), illustrator. Grunt Comix #1. San Francisco: [N.p.], 1971. 8vo. Color promotional comic depicting the new record label’s mascot, “Jumpin’ Jack Flesh.” Publisher’s pictorial wrappers (fold at bottom right corner). LIMITED EDITION. Commissioned by Jefferson Airplane as a promotional item for their new record label, Grunt Records, this comic tells the sordid tale of the Ripped Whips, who make the fatal mistake of signing with the uncaring Mumble City Records rather than the far more down to earth Grunt Records. Two years later Jefferson Airplane commissioned Veitch and Irons to create another issue, this one celebrating their label’s success. Very few copies of this comic were ever produced. Provenance: The Bo Overlock Collection.
