Original handwritten manuscript with illustrations in watercolor and hand–illuminated frontispiece by the author (some incomplete) numbering 80 pages with approximately 400 additional blank pages bound–in. Original half calf with titles gilt, marbled endpapers, raised bands, intricate gilt scrollwork in compartments (rubbing to boards and endpapers). Paul-Frederic Cabantous was a contemporary of Victor Hugo and is believed to be the true author of the poem “Christ at the Vatican,” erroneously attributed to Hugo.
