FIRST EDITION of this rare pocket map that depicts various railroads, canals, and stage and steamboat routes through the midwestern states. Along the foliate border, four vignettes are shown at each corner showing early views of Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis and Cincinnati. This 1848 edition is not listed in Howes and to our knowledge has not appeared at auction. Howes E–165 (1849 edition).
