KING, Stephen (b. 1947). ‘Salem’s Lot. Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1975. 8vo. Original black and red cloth with titles gilt; original dust jacket (creases). FIRST EDITION, second state with “Q37” code in gutter on p. 439 and with reference to Father Cody on dust jacket flap. Inspired by Bram Stoker’s horror classic Dracula, Stephen King wrote ‘Salem’s Lot as a kind of cross between Stoker’s book and the soap opera Peyton Place, populating the story with various characters and giving each a rich backstory, a style which would later become a trademark of King’s longer works.
