Large 4to on Imperial paper (346 x 254 mm). (Some light foxing to title–page). Original drab boards, uncut, unopened (covers detached, chipping along spine); folding box. FIRST EDITION, ONE OF ONLY “A FEW COPIES” PRINTED ON IMPERIAL PAPER. William Cole (1714–1782), the Cambridge antiquary, was one of Walpole’s most frequent correspondents and was described by him as his “oracle in any antique difficulties”.
