Contemporary full brown calf, spine tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, 5 raised bands (spine worn and chipped with loss to gilt, board edges restored, some wear to binding, hinges and joints starting, endleaves offset, text toned and foxed, contemporary ink notations on title-page and recto of rfep). FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION. French physician Charles Dellon was traveling in India in 1673. During his travels, he was arrested by the Portuguese Inquisition, who tortured and imprisoned him for 2 years. His account was first published in 1687 but was published several times in the seventeenth century.
