COVARRUBIAS, Miguel (Mexican, 1904-1957). Portrait of a Woman. Circa 1930s-1940s. Original graphite on paper. Signed by the artist on the lower right corner. 14 x 11”. Minor occasional wrinkling. Mounted onto a matte (matte size: 22 ¼ x 18 ½”). An excellent example of this important artist’s work. Covarrubias was an incredibly talented and versatile man – he was a painter, caricaturist, ethnologist, and art historian. Along with Matthew W. Sterling, he discovered the Olmec Civilization.
