[WITCHCRAFT] DELRIO, Martin Anton (1551-1609). Disquisitionum Magicarum Libri Sex. Venice: John Augustine, 1652. 8vo. 8 ½ x 6”. Woodcut title page with a contemporary early ownership signature (repaired with tape at fore-edge). Later half vellum with paste paper boards. Later endleaves. Some mild wear, soiling to binding, text toned, soiled, with some worm damage. LATER EDITION. Disquisitionum Magicarum Libri Sex was originally printed in three volumes in 1599 and 1600. Traditionally regarded as a slightly lesser version of Heinrich Kramer’s Malleus Maleficarum, Delrio’s text was nonetheless hugely popular and would be printed well into the 18th century - long after other, similar works had gone out of print. This text is an inquisitorial treatise on the prosecution of witchcraft including sexual unions between witches and demons.
