COHEN, Mickey (1913-1976). In My Own Words. The Underworld Autobiography of Michael Mickey Cohen as told to John Peer Nugent. Englewood Cliffs: Prentice-Hall, Inc., [1975]. Inscribed by Cohen on the half-title: “To an old Friend Bill Stout, a truly great newsman, and an interviewer. With all my Best wishes + Respect, Mickey Cohen”. 8vo. Illustrated. Publisher’s full cream cloth, spine lettered in black (some rubbing, toning to board-edges). In the publisher’s dust jacket (some rubbing, light soiling, a few small marginal tears). Near fine. Cohen was perhaps the most famous mob boss in Los Angeles, and one of the few prominent Jewish mobsters. He took over the Los Angeles mob from Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel (1906-1947) after Siegel’s murder. One of the things that Cohen was noted for was surviving repeated attempts on his life by rival mobster Jack Dragna (1891-1956). The recipient, William Stout (1927-1989) was a well-respected investigative reporter and commentator in Los Angeles who interviewed Cohen. An excellent association.
